Ninja CFN801 or CFN601: capsule format and serving differences
Two Ninja carafe-and-capsule designs, with different evidence
The CFN801 Prestige Dual Brew and CFN601 Espresso & Coffee Barista System both combine a grounds path with a single-serve espresso-capsule path. Neither should be assumed to take standard K-Cup coffee pods just because it also brews grounds. SharkNinja describes the CFN801 capsules as “original-style”; the CFN601 owner guide is more explicit about the compatible Original capsule family. If your household calls every single-cup package a pod, pause here and identify the actual format you buy.
What is documented on each route?
The U.S. CFN801 page names grounds Classic, Rich and Over Ice styles and a cup-to-12-cup-carafe range. Its main details say up to nine grounds sizes, although a promotional caption elsewhere says ten. For capsules it names Espresso (1.35 oz), Lungo (3.75 oz) and Over Ice (1 oz); the same page says there are four capsule styles but the product-detail list names three. The practical takeaway is to treat the named styles and broad size range as known, but not shop for an unlisted fourth capsule program or a precise intermediate grounds volume without the exact guide.
For CFN601, the model-specific CFN600 guide provides a fuller operating picture: nine approximate grounds outputs through a full 12-cup glass carafe; separate Original capsule Espresso, Lungo and Over Ice choices; a shared 60-ounce removable reservoir; a selectable warming plate; and a fold-away whisk that does not heat milk. Those confirmed details are useful if you need an exact routine rather than just broad dual-format convenience. Both systems advertise a fold-away frother; do not mistake a whisk for an in-machine steam wand.
Choose by the routine you actually need
- Choose the CFN801 for: a grounds-to-carafe and original-style espresso-capsule machine with listed capsule storage and an included fold-away frother. Verify its capsule compatibility and any must-have size/setting against the exact CFN801 instructions.
- Choose the CFN601 for: the better-documented combination of grounds, Original capsules, named cup-to-carafe sizes and a warming plate whose temperature and duration are described in the owner guide.
- Choose a different model if: you require standard K-Cup coffee pods, a confirmed hot-water tap, whole-bean grinder, or a steam wand. Those features are not established by the CFN801 product detail and should not be inferred from its “Prestige” name.
The systems are countertop appliances rather than espresso machines with a portafilter workflow. The CFN801 page advertises 19-bar capsule brewing; that is a maker specification, not independent evidence of cup quality. In either case, the capsule lane is different from drip grounds and will leave a spent package to discard. A grounds carafe, by contrast, creates a shared batch and a used basket. Think about which cleanup you will repeat on an ordinary morning, not just which drinks could be made at a party.
Counter and package checks
CFN801’s listing reports 8.5 × 10.79 × 16.18 inches and 9.48 pounds, plus a one-year limited warranty. The CFN601 review records its separate published dimensions and 60-ounce reservoir from its own product page and guide. Before buying either, check height under cabinets and the exact box contents: a staged promotional image is not a substitute for a package list, and accessory filters or cups may differ by model. For an exact single-serve K-Cup route, compare the Ninja CFP201 assessment rather than forcing an espresso capsule holder to serve a different format.
