Cuisinart Coffee Center Barista Bar SS-4N1NAS review

A 12-cup glass-carafe hybrid with separate pod and OriginalLine-style capsule routes plus a manual steam/hot-water wand. The black SS-4N1NAS is the current-reference model; discontinued white SS-4N1WNAS is documented as an earlier finish, not a current buying alternative.

A useful fit for

A fit for a household that will use more than one of the Barista Bar routes and wants a 12-cup glass carafe with a timed warming plate. The black NAS is the current-reference model; the exact white WNAS version is discontinued and is retained for a used/remaining-stock comparison.

The main tradeoff

The white WNAS is out of stock and discontinued; the black NAS remains the current-reference offer. Both configurations omit the HomeBarista grounds cup and pitcher, use a hands-on wand, and keep the glass pot warm on a heater plate.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Do the SS-4N1NAS and white SS-4N1WNAS use a 12-cup glass carafe with a heater plate?

Yes. Both exact product pages list a 12-cup glass carafe and adjustable keep-warm; the matching 64-page SS-4N1 Series2 booklet documents the heater plate. The white WNAS page is discontinued/out of stock.

Can the SS-4N1 Barista Bar versions steam milk and dispense hot water through a manual wand?

Yes. Both the black NAS and exact discontinued white WNAS pages list a steam wand for hot water, steamed milk or frothed milk; the series booklet requires wiping and purging the wand after use.

Can the SS-4N1NAS and SS-4N1WNAS make single or double OriginalLine-style capsule espresso?

Yes. Both exact pages list the separate compatible capsule route; the matching series booklet specifies 1.4-ounce single and 3.2-ounce double espresso sizes.

The Cuisinart SS-4N1NAS is the black, glass-carafe Coffee Center Barista Bar. It combines drip, 6/8/10-ounce pods, OriginalLine-style espresso capsules and a manual steam/hot-water wand. Its 12-cup carafe uses a heater plate; a removable 72-ounce reservoir serves the single-serve functions. It is not the thermal SS-4N1T.

Four brew routes, with separate parts and jobs

The drip side uses grounds in the carafe basket. The single-cup brewer offers 6-, 8- and 10-ounce buttons for compatible pods, including K-Cup-style pods. For a more concentrated drink, a separate capsule holder accepts Nespresso OriginalLine-style capsules: the booklet identifies a 1.4-ounce single and 3.2-ounce double. A manually operated wand can steam or froth milk, or dispense hot water. These are useful separate routes, not interchangeable versions of one brew chamber.

Do not mistake the capsule function for a portafilter espresso machine. There is no loose-ground portafilter or espresso-pressure workflow documented here; the manufacturer specifies OriginalLine-style capsules, so verify capsule format rather than assuming Vertuo or another family fits. The SS-4N1NAS can also use your own grounds in its single-serve side with the compatible HomeBarista reusable filter cup, but the manual explicitly says that cup is not included. Cuisinart separately lists a gold-tone permanent filter for the carafe, so a reusable carafe filter does not mean you can brew a personal grounds cup straight from the box.

A glass pot with a timed warming plate

The 12-cup carafe is glass, so it is easier to see how much is left than in the opaque thermal SS-4N1T pot. The heater plate keeps coffee warm after brewing, and the product page gives an adjustable keep-warm and automatic shutoff range of zero to four hours. Single-serve still works during Keep Warm, according to the manual. This fits a kitchen that wants a larger shared batch and individual drinks without requiring the carafe to stay warm indefinitely.

The tradeoff is dependence on the plate. You cannot carry the whole carafe away and expect it to retain heat like the SS-4N1T's insulated vessel; a glass pot should remain on its heater if you want the automatic warming routine. Brew Pause lets you remove it for a pour mid-cycle, but the manual cautions that interrupting a brew can weaken the finished pot. If a non-heated serving vessel is your priority, compare the discontinued 10-cup thermal SS-4N1T or the simpler SS-20.

The steam wand is hands-on, not a milk-button shortcut

For a milk drink, you select STEAM, purge water at the tip, then position the wand in a pitcher and manage the milk as it heats and foams. The booklet suggests 4 to 8 ounces of milk for its example workflow, recommends stopping before the milk boils and says a pitcher is not included. It also calls for wiping the wand immediately with a damp cloth and purging it after use to limit milk buildup. If you want a sealed automatic frother with minimal cleanup, this manual wand is the wrong feature to count as a convenience. If you enjoy controlling the texture and will clean it after each use, it adds a capability that the standard SS-15 or SS-16 Coffee Centers do not list.

The HOT WATER mode dispenses through that wand, separately from the coffee cycle. It is handy for tea or instant foods, but this is not a kettle with a temperature selection. The pod and capsule holders are also separate pieces; the manual warns that their piercing needles are sharp and that a used capsule chamber can contain very hot water. Setup involves water-only cleaning for the pod and capsule routes, and the cleaning pages describe descaling the single-serve and wand path. This is a brewer for someone willing to keep several small, model-specific parts clean and correctly seated.

Capacity, controls and counter fit

The carafe side includes 24-hour programming, adjustable keep-warm timing, auto shutoff, brew strength control, Brew Pause, a gold-tone permanent filter and a charcoal water filter. The listed measurements are 11.88 inches long, 12.88 inches wide and 16.75 inches high. Allow room above for the reservoir lid and brew head, and beside it for the wand; this four-route unit is not a narrow single-serve tower.

The removable 72-ounce tank serves the pod, capsule and wand functions, separately from the carafe's drip reservoir. The manual uses different holders for pods and espresso capsules and separate cleaning directions. For the carafe, use the supplied gold-tone filter or the specified #4 cone paper filter; the booklet warns that an overly fine filter can overflow.

The white WNAS is a separate earlier finish

Cuisinart also lists the white SS-4N1WNAS. Its discontinued page describes the same 12-cup glass-carafe, pod, OriginalLine-style capsule and wand functions and gives the same 11.88 × 12.88 × 16.75-inch dimensions as the black NAS. It is a used-or-remaining-stock reference, not a current alternative. Do not treat the shorter SS-4N1W code as interchangeable with WNAS without an exact label.

Is the SS-4N1NAS the right Barista Bar?

Choose this version if you want the larger 12-cup pot, a visible glass carafe with a scheduled heater plate, and you will actually use both the capsule holder and hand-operated steam wand. The exact page showed a three-year limited warranty and Add to Cart when checked; seller stock and terms can change. Confirm the model suffix and included carafe, capsule pieces and filter with the offer.

Skip it if you want an insulated carafe, a box-included reusable grounds cup, a pitcher or automatic milk frothing, or if you only need a straightforward drip brewer. The current-reference Cuisinart SS-16 offers a simpler glass-pot/pod combination with 4-ounce hot and Over Ice settings. For a Barista Bar thermal pot, read the earlier SS-4N1T review. The exact SS-4N1NAS manufacturer page and SS-4N1 Series instruction booklet document this glass-carafe configuration.
