Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does the SS-15 family have a glass carafe and heater plate?
Yes. All five separately coded variant pages list a 12-cup glass carafe and adjustable carafe-temperature control.
Explore this need in the finder →Which single-serve sizes does the SS-15 family provide?
The official product pages and series booklet identify 6-, 8- and 10-ounce buttons; they do not list the SS-16's four-ounce or Over Ice selection.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the SS-15 family include a reusable cup for your own coffee?
Yes. The exact SS-15, SS-15CS, SS-15CP, SS-15P1, SS-15W and SS-15BKSP1 product pages include Cuisinart’s HomeBarista reusable filter cup; they also list a gold-tone carafe filter.
Explore this need in the finder →The Cuisinart SS-15 is an earlier Coffee Center for a household that still wants a full pot alongside a single serving, but does not need the SS-16's four-ounce and Over Ice options. It pairs a 12-cup glass carafe with a three-button single-serve brewer for 6, 8 or 10 ounces. The manufacturer marks the SS-15 discontinued and out of stock; this is a useful reference when assessing an existing unit or a specific used or remaining-stock listing, not an assurance of current availability.
What the original package does
The single-serve half accepts common single-cup pods, including Keurig K-Cup pods, and the SS-15 product page lists a HomeBarista reusable filter cup for using your own grounds. Its removable tank holds 40 ounces, and a removable drip-tray section can make room for a taller travel mug. A charcoal water filter is part of the setup. The carafe side is a conventional 12-cup glass pot with a stainless handle, a gold-tone coffee filter and adjustable carafe temperature. It also provides Bold strength control, Brew Pause, a ready alert, self-cleaning and a 24-hour start timer.
That combination is appealing when one person wants a pod or reusable-cup serving while another prefers to make a pot. The two routes do not require the same accessory: the small HomeBarista cup is for the single-serve chamber, while the gold-tone filter belongs in the carafe basket. Keep the capsule holder, reusable cup and carafe basket matched to their own chambers. A product photo with loose accessories is not the best evidence for a particular offer; the listed model code and box contents matter more.
For grounds in the small reusable cup, the quick guide sets a 15-gram maximum; for a carafe, it specifies one level scoop per cup and no more than 15 tablespoons.
Check the suffix before comparing the footprint
Cuisinart's discontinued pages identify six finish codes in this family: SS-15 (stainless steel and black), SS-15CS (copper stainless), SS-15CP (Copper), SS-15P1 (Stainless Steel P1), SS-15W (white) and SS-15BKSP1 (Black Stainless). Their exact feature lists agree on the 12-cup glass carafe, 6/8/10-ounce single-serve sizes, removable 40-ounce reservoir and included HomeBarista cup. The family can therefore share one functional assessment, but each suffix remains important: the manufacturer lists the SS-15CS, SS-15CP, SS-15P1 and SS-15BKSP1 at 10.13 by 10.38 by 14.25 inches and the SS-15W at 10.25 by 7.75 by 14.5 inches. Its base SS-15 page does not provide dimensions. Do not apply a variant's measurement to the unsuffixed model.
The lead image shown with this review is Cuisinart's exact SS-15CS copper-stainless product image, not a photograph of the black-and-stainless SS-15 or the white SS-15W. It helps identify the family, but it should not be used to infer which finish a seller is offering or what accessories are in that seller's box.

What you gain and give up versus SS-16
The most obvious trade is cup-size range. SS-15 starts at six ounces and stops at ten; the current-reference SS-16 adds a four-ounce hot selection, an Over Ice setting that includes a 12-ounce serving, and a larger 42-ounce removable tank. Both use a 12-cup glass carafe on a heater plate and offer a reusable HomeBarista cup as well as a permanent carafe filter. If small servings are important, that change is more consequential than a small difference in the product name. If a normal 6-, 8- or 10-ounce drink and the larger shared pot are enough, the SS-15 still describes a useful routine.
Neither the old product page nor the manual establishes the performance of a particular secondhand machine. On a used offer, ask for a clear model-code label, look for the carafe and filter basket, check the glass for cracks and confirm that the reusable cup and capsule holder are present. Consider whether a replacement tank or carafe is still obtainable before committing; a discontinued combination unit may be harder to restore than a current single-serve brewer. The manufacturer booklet also warns that unsuitable permanent filters or an overflowing basket can make a mess, so use its specified gold-tone filter or a standard cone paper filter, not a random accessory based only on appearance.
Who should keep it on the shortlist?
SS-15 fits a household that genuinely uses both sides, prefers a visible glass pot and accepts the hot plate as its way of keeping coffee warm. It is less compelling for someone who mostly drinks one cup and would rather avoid a large second brewing section, or for someone specifically seeking a thermal carafe with no warming surface. For that latter routine, compare the SS-20, whose insulated 10-cup pot rests on a plate that does not heat. For a current Coffee Center alternative, the SS-16 retains the glass-pot approach but supplies a broader single-serve menu; its current product page was out of stock when checked, so compare the exact retailer's code and condition.
The practical recommendation is conditional: consider SS-15 only when you can verify the exact suffix, working condition and included pieces. The function is straightforward, but the age and six related finish codes make a generic “Cuisinart Coffee Center” listing too vague. Use the SS-15 page, the separate SS-15CS, SS-15CP, SS-15P1, SS-15W and SS-15BKSP1 pages, and the SS-15 series booklet plus the two-page quick guide to check a real offer.
