A useful fit for

A fit for a small household or routine group batch that wants beans ground within the brewer, a thermal pot instead of a warming plate, and the option to set the machine ahead or make a smaller 1–4 cup batch. Grind Off keeps it useful when whole beans are not on hand.

The main tradeoff

It is a carafe-first grounds machine: it does not document a pod or individual mug program. The thermal pot avoids a hot plate, but the manufacturer gives no measured keep-hot duration. Brew Pause is brief (return the pot within 20 seconds), and the “self-clean” label still means the owner prepares the prescribed vinegar/water decalcification and fresh-water rinse. The permanent and #4 paper filters are alternatives, not meant to be stacked. Its product-page weight appears without a unit and is not reported.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Do you want a thermal carafe sized to ten manufacturer cups, with a built-in grinder and a way to use pre-ground coffee too?

The DGB-450NAS is a 10-cup thermal-carafe brewer. It grinds beans with a blade grinder; for pre-ground coffee the manual directs the owner to select Grind Off. It is not a pod or single-mug brewer.

Would a programmed start and a dedicated 1–4 cup setting help with your morning or smaller batch?

Cuisinart documents 24-hour programmable Auto On and a 1–4 cup setting; the manual recommends that setting for fewer than five cups. Brew Pause is separate and gives only 20 seconds to return the pot.

Is a ten-cup thermal pot enough, or do you need a larger batch or a single-serve iced route?

The exact model is rated for ten maker-cups in its thermal pot and has no documented individual-mug, Over Ice or Cold Brew mode. If you need more than ten maker-cups or a single cup, compare another operating plan.

The Cuisinart DGB-450NAS combines an integrated blade grinder with a 10-cup thermal-carafe brewer. Its advantage is not a larger feature count than every Grind & Brew sibling; it is the choice to grind whole beans for a shared pot and serve that pot from insulated walls rather than leave coffee on a heated plate. Its exact U.S. page and directly linked DGB-450 Series booklet support a 24-hour start, a 1–4 cup setting, Grind Off for pre-ground coffee and a 20-second Brew Pause. They do not publish a measured keep-hot duration or adjustable carafe temperature.

A thermal pot with a small-batch option

The carafe is rated for 10 maker cups and the manual identifies its capacity as 1.45 liters. A maker cup is not a large travel mug: the instructions use 145 milliliters of water per cup and separately recommend a 1–4 Cup setting when making fewer than five cups. That setting is worth using for a short pot; the manual warns that a standard brew can make a small batch cooler because the heater takes time to warm. After brewing, the machine turns itself off, while the insulated carafe—not an active warming plate—holds the batch. Cuisinart says it stays hot for hours but does not specify an exact number. The metal-looking exterior in the product image is not evidence about the inner vessel construction.

Grind whole beans or switch the grinder off

For whole beans, the blade grinder sits in a dedicated basket. Add beans, select the 1–4 Cup option for a smaller batch when appropriate, and start brewing or program it up to 24 hours ahead. The manual supplies dosing guidance and cautions against overfilling; there is no documented user grind-size menu. If the household keeps pre-ground coffee on hand, press Grind Off and use either the permanent gold-tone filter or a #4 paper basket filter. The booklet warns against stacking the paper and permanent filters together because overflow can result. This is still a grounds-only brewer, not a pod machine.

Brew Pause briefly interrupts the flow when the thermal carafe is lifted. The manual limits that break to 20 seconds; leaving the pot out longer can cause the filter basket to overflow. It is a useful mid-brew pour, but not a way to serve several cups while the brewer continues unattended. A 24-hour program, pause and automatic shutdown serve different needs: schedule the start for a morning pot, use Pause for a quick pour, and let the insulated carafe hold coffee after the brewing cycle has ended.

Cleaning is a real ownership task

The exact page describes a Clean feature, but the booklet shows what that means in practice: when the red Clean light appears, remove the charcoal filter and run a vinegar-and-water decalcification cycle, followed by fresh water. Mineral content and use affect how often the light appears. The instructions also call for regular removal and cleaning of the grinder basket, filter parts and carafe. A Clean button is useful, but it does not make the built-in grinder self-maintaining. The manual recommends changing the charcoal water filter every 60 days or 60 uses, sooner with hard water, and lists a limited three-year U.S. warranty.

The strongest reason to choose the DGB-450NAS over Cuisinart's DGB-400NAS is the 10-cup thermal pot; the DGB-400NAS is a larger 12-cup glass-carafe configuration with a warming plate. Neither choice makes a pod cup, and neither replaces the DGB-30's single-mug grind-and-brew routine. If glass and a plate suit your serving habits, compare the DGB-400NAS instead. If loose pods or an independent single cup matter, choose a separate single-serve model such as the Cuisinart SS-9. Do not buy this one for a specified number of insulated hours, adjustable heat, or an independent iced mode: those are not documented for this exact model. The page lists Black Stainless finish and dimensions of 8.13 by 9.98 by 15.5 inches; its bare weight value has no unit and is left out. The staged front-view gallery is not a package list. Check the DGB-450NAS product page and the model-linked DGB-450 Series booklet to verify the carafe, filters and grinder basket in the offer you are considering.
