A useful fit for

A one-cup routine that wants compatible pods and an included modest reusable grounds cup, five 4–12 oz choices, an easy-fill removable 72 oz tank and a capsule-free hot-water selection.

The main tradeoff

The SS-10P1 does not brew a carafe, has no documented Bold strength, Cold Brew or Over Ice program, and its On Time powers the machine rather than scheduling a capsule-to-cup brew. Its HomeBarista cup is limited to 15 g and must be emptied and cleaned between grounds servings.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the SS-10P1 use pods and also brew my own ground coffee?

Yes. Use the single-serve pod holder for compatible pods, or remove it and install the included HomeBarista reusable grounds cup. They are alternate inserts for separate brews.

Does the SS-10P1 include a reusable grounds filter, and how much coffee fits?

It includes the HomeBarista cup; Cuisinart's manual gives a maximum fill of 2.5 tablespoons or 15 g and recommends medium grind without tamping.

Does it make hot water without a coffee pod?

Yes. The separate Hot Water selection can dispense water with no capsule in the brew chamber; the manual says the Rinse selection is about four ounces.

Will the programmable On Time make a cup before I wake up?

No unattended brew is documented. The On Time turns the machine on; load the cup and press Brew yourself.

Does the SS-10P1 have a Bold or iced-coffee setting?

No Bold, Over Ice or Cold Brew mode is documented. It lets you select cup size and choose HOT or XHOT temperature instead.

Cuisinart SS-10P1 Premium Single Serve Brewer in Stainless Steel P1 finish with removable reservoir, LCD and cup tray

The Cuisinart SS-10P1 is a programmable single-cup machine, not a compact carafe brewer. Its practical distinction is that one small brew chamber accepts a compatible pod or the included HomeBarista reusable grounds cup, while a separate Hot Water button handles tea, cocoa or a cup of hot water. If you want multiple coffee formats without keeping a carafe warm, the SS-10P1 is worth considering. If you want one brew to serve several people, its 72-ounce tank should not be mistaken for a 72-ounce coffee batch.

Two inputs, one cup at a time

The manufacturer lists compatibility with any brand of single-cup pod, including K-Cup pods. The five serving choices are 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 ounces. The 12-ounce selection is a regular pod size, and the 4-ounce choice is useful when a small pour is preferable to a full mug. This is a straightforward route for households that share the machine but not their preferred pod brand.

For ground coffee, remove the pod holder and use the included HomeBarista cup. It is a small single-serve filter rather than a carafe basket: Cuisinart's manual caps it at 2.5 tablespoons or 15 grams, recommends a medium grind and warns that finer coffee may overflow. Do not tamp the grounds. The cup is dishwasher-safe, but it still has to be emptied and rinsed after each grounds brew. Switching formats means changing the insert, not brewing pods and grounds together. If your daily routine involves ground coffee, a larger reusable grounds basket may be less fiddly than this capsule-sized accessory.

Hot water and programming are separate conveniences

The machine has a dedicated Hot Water selection that runs without a coffee capsule, plus a Rinse cycle that the manual says dispenses about four ounces. That separation is handy for a quick tea or instant soup, though it is not a temperature-selectable kettle. The rinse function matters if you alternate coffee and other drinks: the manual recommends flushing residual coffee, tea or cocoa flavor before using the hot-water route.

On the blue-backlit display, you can set a default cup size, choose between the maker's XHOT and HOT temperature settings, and program On and Off times. The temperature choices are not a brew-strength control; there is no documented Bold setting. There is also an important difference between setting an On time and scheduling a complete cup. The manual says the programmed On time turns the machine on and that the unit must be off for this function; it does not document automatic loading or an unattended brew. Plan to put in the pod or grounds cup, set a mug, and press Brew yourself.

Capacity, footprint and ownership

The removable 72-ounce reservoir reduces trips to the sink when several people make separate drinks, but each serving still occupies its own brew cycle and tops out at 12 ounces. The drip tray lifts off for a taller travel mug; check the clearance of your specific cup rather than relying on the “travel mug” label alone. The listed dimensions are 11.03 inches long by 9.33 wide by 12.13 high, so measure both the counter depth and the space beneath any cabinet.

A charcoal water filter is included, and the instruction booklet recommends replacing it every 60 days or 60 uses, more often with hard water. The HomeBarista cup, capsule holder, needles and brew chamber also need routine cleaning. Cuisinart lists a limited three-year warranty. Treat that as the maker's stated warranty term, not a promise about resale condition or service outcomes.

Who should choose it—and who should not

Choose the SS-10P1 when you want compatible pods, a modest reusable grounds option, a removable multi-cup water reservoir, adjustable hot-water access and programmable machine start-up in one single-cup footprint. It is less suitable if you need a stronger/bolder setting, dedicated Over Ice or Cold Brew mode, large grounds doses, a pot of coffee, or a brewer that starts brewing unattended. The manual and product page describe cup-size and temperature controls, not a way to change extraction strength.

If cold drinks are central, the Cuisinart SS-9 is the closer comparison because its maker documents grounds Cold Brew and a separate pod Over Ice route; those are two different programs. If you need both a pot and single servings, compare a Coffee Center such as the SS-16 instead. The SS-10P1 keeps its job simpler: one drink at a time, with a useful grounds option and hot water, but no shared carafe or specialty cold cycle.
