Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can I add water and grounds from the front, keep the brewer in place, and still make a smaller pot?
Yes. The exact U.S. page describes FrontFill water access and a swing-open grounds basket, while the A118 guide documents Regular/Bold/1–4 Cups into the glass carafe.
Explore this need in the finder →Does this make a personal single cup or accept pods?
No pod holder or direct-to-mug outlet is documented in the exact page and linked A118 Use & Care guide. The 1–4 Cups choice is a smaller carafe brew, not a one-cup machine.
Explore this need in the finder →How does the two-hour warmer cutoff compare with a longer hot-plate hold?
Hamilton Beach states that the 46310J plate shuts off after two hours. Models whose own instructions document four hours can satisfy a three-hour minimum; the 46310J cannot. This is a stated auto-shutoff interval, not a measured coffee-temperature result.
Explore this need in the finder →The Hamilton Beach FrontFill™ 46310J is a familiar 12-cup glass-carafe drip brewer with a more practical access pattern for a low or crowded counter. The water-fill lid and swing-open grounds basket are reached from the front, so you can leave it in place instead of pulling it forward to reach a back tank or top basket. Its modes are Regular, Bold and 1–4 Cups; that small-batch setting still ends in the carafe, not a personal mug. Pods, a single-serve outlet and a dedicated iced-carafe recipe are not documented in the exact product page or linked guide.
Front access changes the daily routine
The manufacturer lists the body at 13.9 inches high, 7.95 inches wide and 12.91 inches deep. Check those body dimensions against your cabinet and allow clearance for the reservoir lid, basket, carafe handle and your hand. Hamilton Beach says front access is intended to let the brewer stay under a cabinet; that does not guarantee clearance in every nook.
The guide shows an integrated reservoir fill lid and an easy-view water window. It does not describe a lift-out water tank, so front filling should not be confused with carrying a removable reservoir to the sink. In the normal workflow you add cold water at the machine, open the swing basket, place an 8–12 cup paper filter and ground coffee, close it, then set the glass carafe on the warming plate. This is useful if the machine's location is awkward but still requires normal grounds and pot cleanup.
Three choices, all for a carafe
Regular and Bold are the two strength selections. The third option optimizes the brew cycle for 1–4 cups; it does not change the outlet into a mug platform. The 12-cup label is the maker's pot-capacity convention, not twelve large café cups. The small setting is for a smaller pot; select another machine if pods or a personal-mug outlet are essential.
The page also supports programming the clock for coffee to be ready in the morning, but neither the exact page nor the inspected guide states a maximum number of hours ahead. I therefore would not use a supposed 24-hour limit as a deciding fact. Once brewing ends, the nonstick plate keeps the glass pot warm and the machine shuts itself off after two hours. That is shorter than the four-hour cutoff in the related 46280J and 43690J guides. If a pot may sit through a long breakfast, a thermal-carafe brewer avoids a plate but gives up this glass-pot routine.
Auto Pause & Pour briefly interrupts the flow so you can pour before brewing finishes. The guide says to return the pot within 20 seconds, so treat this as a quick first cup rather than a long stop. The cleaning reminder is more concrete than a vague light: if the machine stays plugged in, CLEAN appears after 30 brew cycles; unplugging resets its cycle counter. The maker recommends monthly cleaning, or weekly with hard water; its reminder tracks brew cycles, not water hardness.
Filters and limits worth checking
The manual depicts an 8–12 cup filter basket and says an optional permanent filter may also be used. The exact listing offers a separate Hamilton Beach 80674R water filter for the reservoir, not a reusable coffee-grounds filter. Because the product page does not give a complete box-contents list, included permanent-filter status remains unknown. Check what a seller actually includes before counting on a reusable filter.
The guide does not establish pods, direct-to-mug brewing, removable-reservoir use, a cold-brew mode, a carafe-over-ice recipe or adjustable brew temperature. The page calls the plate nonstick, not temperature-adjustable. The sources provide no independent taste test, measured temperature or extraction data. A strength control is not proof of a particular cup result.
Who should choose it?
Choose the 46310J if you want a programmable grounds brewer, a glass pot and front access while it remains tucked near a cabinet. Its combination of 1–4 cup batching, Auto Pause & Pour and a two-hour plate cutoff fits a household that pours from a carafe and clears the pot reasonably soon. Skip it if the warmer must stay active for at least three or four hours, if you require a removable water tank, or if pods or one-cup output are essential. For a longer documented glass-carafe warm period, compare the 46280J; for an exact grounds-and-ice carafe routine, see the separate 43690J assessment rather than assuming this FrontFill model can do it.
Hamilton Beach also lists an earlier 46300 Front-Fill model. Its exact manufacturer page links the same A118 Use & Care guide and documents the same 12-cup glass-carafe, Regular/Bold/1–4 cup, Auto Pause & Pour and two-hour shutoff routine. The manufacturer page marked 46300 “No Longer Available” when checked on 2026-10-24. Treat it as an earlier model code for the same documented routine, not as a current offer or proof of every package detail.

For exact instructions, use the Hamilton Beach 46310J product page and linked Use & Care guide 840263902. The earlier 46300 product page is useful for its model identity and its manufacturer-stated lifecycle, not as a current offer. To compare retail offers, use an exact-model search for Hamilton Beach 46310J; this is a search, not a claim about any particular seller or listing.
