Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can one machine use both pods and grounds, and make an iced cup with actual size and ice guidance?
Yes. The exact manual gives a pod or grounds holder choice and a dedicated iced routine at 10, 12 or 14 ounces. It specifies 5, 6 or 7 ounces of ice respectively in a heatproof tumbler or travel mug and says not to use glass. This remains hot-brewed coffee over ice, not cold brew.
Explore this need in the finder →Does an iced button mean cold brew, or will this machine steep grounds with cold water?
No. The guide describes coffee brewed through the normal pod or grounds holder and dispensed over ice. It does not document a cold-water steep or a Grounds Cold Brew setting.

The 49925 supports pods and grounds, includes its grounds basket, and documents Regular/Bold in hot brewing plus an iced pod route. Hot pod size guidance favors 12 ounces or less for best flavor; the dedicated iced menu is 10/12/14 ounces.
Explore this need in the finder →The FlexBrew Advanced 4-in-1 (49925) is a narrow, one-cup brewer that lets you choose pods or loose grounds and a hot or iced routine. The name describes four combinations, not four drinks made at once: you brew one serving at a time, selecting a pod holder or grounds basket and then a hot or iced mode. Its strongest distinction from the simpler hot-only 49901 is the dedicated iced control; against the FlexBrew 49921, the 49925’s larger difference is a more explicitly specified iced-size menu and a hot Bold option.
The 49925 makes iced coffee with a defined cup routine
For hot coffee, the guide lists 8, 10, 12, and 14 ounces. It also provides Regular and Bold controls; Bold pauses during the brew so the machine can increase flavor. The maker says an 8-ounce cup takes about two minutes. Treat that as Hamilton Beach’s description, not a timing measurement. When using a pod, the guide recommends 12 ounces or less for best flavor. The panel does list a 14-ounce hot size, but that is not the same as a manufacturer promise that every pod tastes equally good at that volume.
The separate iced setting offers 10, 12, or 14 ounces. The maker gives specific ice additions for those choices: 5 ounces for the 10-ounce setting, 6 for 12, and 7 for 14; the ice is part of the resulting volume. Put the ice in a heatproof tumbler or travel mug, and do not use glass. These instructions let you plan an iced cup more precisely than the 49921 documentation, which calls for ice in a 16-ounce heatproof vessel but does not state a selected iced yield. The 49925 still brews coffee hot and dispenses it over ice. It is not a cold-water steeping machine, nor does it have a separate Grounds Cold Brew program.
The over-ice procedure also has a serving vessel requirement. A household that normally uses a glass, or wants to fill a different container without checking its heat suitability, should consider that before treating iced coffee as an effortless add-on. If your priority is steeped cold brew rather than hot coffee over ice, a purpose-built cold-brew brewer or a machine with a true grounds Cold Brew mode is a better fit.
Pods, grounds, and a removable tank
Hamilton Beach lists both a pod holder and a single-serve grounds basket in the package. The reservoir lifts off, holds up to 45 ounces, and the company describes that as five 8-ounce cups before refilling. That is convenient when several people make individual cups in sequence, but it is not a way to prepare a pot for simultaneous serving. There is no carafe or keep-warm routine.
The grounds basket has a three-tablespoon (15-gram) maximum. A No. 1 paper cone filter is optional if you want to reduce sediment; the manufacturer does not list paper filters as included. The cup rest is removable for a travel mug up to 7.5 inches tall. The body is listed at 12.8 inches high, 5.5 inches wide, and 10.7 inches deep, so it is unusually narrow for a dual-input machine but still needs room above the lid and to lift out the tank. The displayed hero image shows the 49925’s removable side reservoir and touchscreen, along with staged hot and iced cups; those cups are not package evidence, and Hamilton Beach does not identify the image as a photograph or render.
Cleaning is part of switching formats
Rinse the pod holder after a pod brew and the grounds basket after a grounds brew. The manual says removable parts can be hand-washed or put on the top rack of a dishwasher, but not through the sanitize cycle. That warning matters in a household that relies on a high-temperature dishwasher setting. The machine also needs periodic descaling: Hamilton Beach calls for at least monthly cleaning, or weekly in hard-water areas. Its cleaning procedure uses white vinegar, a pause while it runs through the cycle, and water-only rinses afterward. The full clean routine takes around 45 minutes, so the removable reservoir does not eliminate maintenance.
Take care with the piercing needles when cleaning and do not lift the lid while brewing. If finely ground coffee keeps dripping after the cycle, the guide notes that this can happen; it also recommends a standard automatic-drip grind rather than very fine grounds. These are small but practical constraints for someone switching from pre-measured pods to a reusable basket.
Who should choose it?
Choose the 49925 if you want one compact appliance for compatible pods and grounds, hot and iced single cups, a stated 10/12/14-ounce iced menu, and a Bold hot option. It is more configurable for iced servings than the 49921’s published instructions, although the 49921 has a larger 50-ounce reservoir and a manufacturer-stated 90-second 8-ounce brew estimate. If you want the bigger tank and do not need Bold or defined iced-size choices, compare the 49921. If iced coffee is not part of your routine, the hot-only 49901 keeps the same broad pod/grounds idea without dedicating controls to ice. For a group pot, look at a carafe machine; for a genuinely cold-steeped drink, do not mistake the 49925’s Over Ice button for that process.
