Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can two people brew separate cups in one session, even with different inputs or serving sizes?
Yes. The two sides have separate controls and can be used together; the exact guide allows 6–14 ounces per side, different brew inputs and size choices, and notes that the stream switches between the two sides while the pair is brewing. Hot and iced cannot be selected together in the same session.
Explore this need in the finder →Can both brew chambers be combined into one large travel mug instead of making a pot?
Yes. The manufacturer describes a 14–28-ounce large travel mug using both sides and an 8-inch-tall mug fit with the rests removed. That combined single-mug routine still uses two brew chambers; the product has no batch carafe.
Explore this need in the finder →Does dual brewing let me make a hot drink and an iced drink at the same time, or does Over Ice mean cold brew?
No to both. The guide explicitly says hot and iced styles cannot be brewed at once. Iced coffee is made by brewing coffee over ice; the manual does not document cold-water grounds steeping.
Explore this need in the finder →The Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Mix & Match Brewer (49926) is a two-sided single-serve machine built around a practical household problem: two people want coffee at once, but not necessarily the same coffee. Each side can take a compatible pod or its own grounds basket, and each side has its own size and strength controls. You can run two cups in one brewing session, or use both sides to build one larger mug. It is not a carafe machine, and its special value is not simply a broader drink menu; it is the ability to combine two independent single-cup routes.
Two brew heads change the morning routine
Hamilton Beach’s U.S. page identifies model 49926 and describes two separate cups brewed in one session. The manual is more useful for understanding how that works: select either side or both, and when both are active the coffee stream switches between sides. Set a size for each side. The guide describes one cup at 6–14 ounces, two cups at 6–14 ounces each, or a large travel mug totaling 14–28 ounces when you select both sides. Remove the cup rests and drip tray for a tall mug, or put a cup below each head. In other words, the maker combines two chambers in a single routine rather than pouring an entire pot into a shared carafe.
The two sides can take different ingredients. One person can use a compatible pod while another uses grounds; you can also use two pods or two grounds baskets to build a custom drink in one larger mug. The guide suggests a two-pod method for a stronger single serving: brew two smaller portions, such as two 6-ounce cycles, into the same mug. It also gives the example of mixing decaf grounds on one side with regular coffee on the other. These are real reasons to choose the 49926 over an ordinary pod machine, but a very different routine from making one cup with one capsule.
It is flexible, but not unlimited
The product page lists hot and iced brewing, a removable 60-ounce reservoir, dual touchscreen controls, two pod holders, two grounds baskets, and a slide-out storage drawer. It gives dimensions of 13.9 inches high, 7.8 wide, and 11.7 deep. Hamilton Beach says it can brew up to 28 ounces into an 8-inch travel mug. That maximum depends on using both sides and removing the rests; a mug that fits under one nozzle is not automatically a 28-ounce single-side drink. Measure the counter and overhead clearance, especially if the brewer has to sit below a cabinet.
The manual allows hot or iced coffee, but explicitly says the two styles cannot be brewed at the same time. Each active side has a Regular/Bold/Iced control, yet that does not make it a hot-and-iced pair in one cycle. For iced coffee, add ice equal to about half to three-quarters of the selected iced-coffee amount, then brew over it. Do not confuse that with cold brew: the documented iced setting is not a cold-water steep. If a household needs one hot drink and one iced drink ready in the same run, do not assume the dual chambers can split those modes.
Each grounds basket holds up to 3 tablespoons (15 grams), and the manual suggests a No. 1 cone paper filter or a coarser grind if grounds sediment is a problem. The paper filter is an optional workaround, not a listed included accessory. The 60-ounce tank is generous for a single-cup system, but water capacity does not remove the repeated grounds loading, pod disposal, or rinsing. Grounds baskets and pod holders should be rinsed after each use. The manual allows hand washing or top-rack dishwasher cleaning, but warns against the dishwasher’s sanitize cycle. It recommends at least monthly cleaning, or weekly in hard-water areas; its vinegar clean-and-rinse routine takes roughly 20–30 minutes.
Who should choose 49926?
Choose it when two people regularly make different single cups at nearly the same time, when you want to alternate pods and grounds without swapping a single brew chamber, or when the larger 14–28-ounce travel-mug route matters. Its split settings allow size and strength choices by side, while the removable tank reduces trips to refill. The separate holders also make it easier to leave one format ready while storing the other in the side drawer.
Choose the narrower FlexBrew Advanced 4-in-1 49925 instead if one cup at a time is enough. Its 5.5-inch width, 45-ounce tank, dedicated iced size menu, and hot Bold choice fit a smaller counter and a simpler single-cup workflow. The 49926 is wider at 7.8 inches, has more parts to clean, and does not make a batch for a table. If a carafe and keep-warm function are essential, choose a genuine carafe brewer rather than counting the 49926’s two outputs as a pot. If true cold brew is essential, look for a brewer with a documented cold-water grounds program.
