Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio A147 Coffee Maker review

Three exact new-condition U.S. A147 codes pair a removable 56-ounce single-serve reservoir and pod/grounds cup routes with a separate glass 12-cup grounds carafe. The 49902G, 49916G and 49917 codes are supported by their exact pages and model-linked instructions; only one side brews at a time. Exact 49914 is assessed separately because its own product page claims a 12-ounce pod ceiling.

A useful fit for

A fit for a household that actually alternates between individual pod or grounds cups and a larger carafe brew, wants a removable 56-ounce single-serve tank, and has room for the 12-cup glass pot and warming plate.

The main tradeoff

It takes carafe-machine counter space but brews on only one side at a time; the manually documented pod menu reaches 10 oz and the grounds basket reaches 14 oz. There is no documented iced or cold-brew routine, independent hot-water outlet, permanent carafe filter included, or 16-ounce grounds cup. The exact 49914 code is not interchangeable with this assessment: its own product page claims pods up to 12 ounces and is reviewed separately.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Do you want one machine that can alternate between pods, grounds and a glass batch pot?

The directly linked A147 manuals document the removable 56 oz single-serve tank, separate pod and grounds holders, and a 12-cup glass carafe on a warming plate. Exact 49916G is included by its directly linked 49916/type A147 guide and suffix rule; the exact black-stainless page confirms the model. Only one side brews at a time.

Will its grounds route fill one large travel mug to 14 oz, and is 16 oz confirmed?

The guide lists 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 oz for the removable single-serve grounds basket and tells the user to remove the cup rest for a travel mug. It does not document a 16 oz grounds size.

Does this 49902G/49916G/49917 configuration meet a 12-ounce pod requirement, or is its documented pod menu limited to 10?

The exact pages and A147 guides used for these three codes document 6/8/10-ounce pod settings. Hamilton Beach separately lists 49914 with a page claim of up to 12 ounces, so that code has its own assessment and is not part of this result.

The Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio A147 assessment here covers three exact new-condition U.S. codes: 49902G, 49916G and 49917. Exact 49914 is now assessed separately because its own U.S. page claims a pod cup up to 12 ounces. Factory-recertified R49916 shares the 49916 brew setup but has separate condition and warranty terms. This machine switches among compatible pods, single-cup grounds and a pot of grounds coffee, but the sides cannot brew simultaneously. Choose it when both cup and carafe routines earn the larger footprint.

One brewer, separate cup and carafe routines

The linked 36-page Use & Care guide names 49902, 49914 and 49917 as type A147, rated 120 V/60 Hz/1400 W, and allows suffix letters—bridging 49902G to the guide. Its parts list separates a removable 56-ounce single-serve tank, pod holder and grounds basket from the carafe reservoir, basket, glass pot and warming plate. Carafe water is measured in the pot and poured into its own reservoir.

The guide sets pods at 6/8/10 ounces and single-cup grounds at 6/8/10/12/14 ounces, up to 3 tablespoons (15 grams); the carafe brews up to 12 maker-sized cups. Each input has its own holder. Remove the cup rest for a travel mug up to 7 inches tall. Fourteen ounces is the largest grounds cup, not a 16-ounce serving or a second simultaneous brew.

What “three ways” does—and does not—mean

Only one side brews at a time. Regular and Bold apply to pods, single-cup grounds and carafe; Bold takes longer. Hamilton Beach advertises about 90 seconds per single cup, not an independently timed result.

The carafe side adds Easy-Touch delay, Auto Pause & Pour and a two-hour shutoff. Delay programming is carafe-only and blocks single-serve use while set. Return the pot within 20 seconds during pause-and-pour to avoid overflowing. This family has no documented Over Ice, Cold Brew, independent hot-water outlet or grinder. For an iced setting, compare the single-cup FlexBrew Advanced 49925 instead.

Exact codes matter at the cup-size boundary

The exact pages list 49902G and 49916G at 11.3 inches wide, versus 11.8 for 49917; all three assessed codes are 13.8 high and 13.2 deep. Check the code if a tight counter gap makes that half-inch matter. The black 49914 is a separate assessment: its exact page says pods can brew up to 12 ounces, while the shared A147 guide advises 6/8/10 ounces for best flavor. That difference is attached to 49914 only, not carried across the other Trio codes.

Black-stainless 49916G is an A147 variant, not the 40-ounce A149 49904FG. Its exact page links guide 840355802, whose model table names 49916/type A147 and permits suffix letters. The page and guide confirm the 56-ounce tank, 6/8/10-ounce pods and five-size grounds menu, adding a refill-capacity and 6-ounce choice not listed for A149. Hamilton Beach’s R49916 page offers factory-recertified 49916 hardware with a stated 90-day warranty and accessories/manuals included; it showed Out of Stock when checked. Treat that as a different condition/warranty offer, not a new brew configuration.

Cleaning is a two-side job

Rinse both cup holders, the carafe basket and pot after use. Removable parts are hand-wash or top-rack dishwasher safe, but not for the Sanitize setting. Fine grounds can drip through; the guide suggests an optional No. 1 cone filter to reduce sediment, without claiming it is supplied. The carafe uses a basket paper filter and allows up to 60 grams for 12 cups.

Hamilton Beach advises cleaning monthly, or weekly in hard-water areas, with separate vinegar-and-water descales for each side and fresh-water cycles afterward. The pod needle is sharp; the guide shows removing its holder to clear clogs and warns against cleaning while hot. If you only brew a mug, that extra upkeep and counter space are wasted.

Who should pick it instead of another FlexBrew?

Choose it if one appliance must cover pods, single-cup grounds and a programmed glass pot, and a 13.2-inch depth fits. The narrower FlexBrew Dual 49918G is for hot cups without a carafe; the FlexBrew Advanced 49925 adds hot-over-ice instead of a batch pot. The Scoop 47620/47621 simplifies grounds-only cups but gives up pods and carafe. Decide whether you actually need one cup, a pot, or both.

Bottom line: The A147 family is a useful cup-and-carafe hybrid, with pods, grounds, a removable 56-ounce cup tank and programmable 12-cup glass pot. It brews one side at a time, hot only, with grounds cups capped at 14 ounces. Do not assume 49914’s exact-page 12-ounce pod capability applies to the three codes assessed here or extend one variant’s menu to another.
