Ninja AutoBarista Pro Fully Automatic Espresso Machine — AE1051 family review

The Pro adds a 13-preset drink menu, five FrothPerfect styles, two swappable 340 g hoppers and an 80 oz tank to a fully automatic whole-bean espresso-and-coffee station. A separate pre-ground chute supports drip only up to 355 ml; no carafe or pod adapter is listed.

A useful fit for

For a fully automatic whole-bean routine when the larger reservoir, added drink and froth presets, and second swappable hopper are useful; not for an included shared carafe or pod/capsule brewing.

The main tradeoff

The Pro adds 13 presets, extra-thick froth, an 80 oz reservoir and two swappable 340 g hoppers, but remains a large cup-serving machine without a listed carafe or pod route. The second hopper is not a documented automatic selector; pre-ground remains drip-only up to 355 ml.

Your needs, this model

Would a second swappable bean hopper be useful?

The exact AE1051 product page lists two 340 g swappable hoppers. It describes replaceable hoppers, not an automatic dual-bean selector.

Does Pro offer an automatic Cold Brew menu drink from its whole-bean hopper?

Yes. The model-labeled guide and exact U.S. product page document a Cold Brew drink program. The pre-ground chute is limited to drip coffee, so this is not a loose/reusable-grounds Cold Brew input route.

Does this model deliver hot water independently of a coffee recipe?

The model-labeled control-panel guide documents a separate Hot Water control; the machine also has milk-frothing functions.

Ninja AutoBarista Pro AE1051 is the higher-capacity, more configurable sibling in a fully automatic espresso-and-coffee line. It keeps the one-touch bean-to-drink format but expands the preset menu from ten to thirteen and adds a fifth FrothPerfect style. Its clearest practical distinction is the package: the Pro includes two 340 g swappable bean hoppers and an 80 oz reservoir. If you don't need to alternate beans or use the extra preset, those additions may not justify choosing it over AE1001.

One-touch brewing across several drink styles

AE1051 uses a stainless-steel burr grinder with 50 grind settings, Grind iQ adjustment, weight-based dosing and an integrated tamper. The manufacturer lists nine-bar espresso from a 15-bar system, authentic drip coffee and Cold Brew, plus Over Ice and espresso-based drinks. The 13 one-touch presets are not just 13 cup sizes; they are drink recipes that can be customized with strength, temperature, volume or shot count, depending on the selected drink. The quick-start guide says volume controls apply to drip, Over Ice and Cold Brew, while espresso strength and shot selection work differently.

The controls include separate settings for hot water and independent frothing. The manufacturer's product page also identifies a steam wand, jug, removable brew unit and automatic rinse behavior. A two-drink “Brew Two” setting applies only to certain drinks. That is useful when the preset supports it, but it does not turn the unit into a batch carafe brewer. The exact box list does not name a coffee carafe, pod adapter or capsule holder.

Why the two hoppers matter—and what they don't promise

The Pro package lists two 340 g swappable hoppers, rather than AE1001's single 250 g hopper. That lets an owner keep a second hopper ready for another bean or roast rather than emptying the installed hopper. It should not be read as a two-bin automatic selector: the product page calls them swappable, and the quick-start guide describes recalibrating when beans are changed in the same hopper. If you rarely change coffee, the extra hopper is less consequential than the larger water reservoir or the additional presets.

The reservoir is 80 oz versus AE1001's 70 oz. Both machines share the same listed 17.81 × 10.68 × 15.82 in body dimensions and 1,650 W, 120 V / 60 Hz electrical rating, but Pro weighs 39.44 lb. The extra capacity may mean fewer refills during a busy routine; it does not replace cleaning, water-quality setup or access to the tank.

Whole beans are primary, with a limited pre-ground exception

The full-featured routine begins with whole beans in the hopper. AE1051 also has a separate pre-ground coffee chute, but the model-labeled quick-start instructions limit pre-ground to drip coffee up to 355 ml (roughly 12 oz). That makes it a useful escape hatch for one small drip serving, not a pre-ground espresso or multi-cup setting. For whole-bean drip output above that volume, the guide says the machine can grind and brew repeatedly in succession.

SharkNinja advertises authentic drip coffee and a named Cold Brew menu drink up to 40 oz. The Cold Brew menu begins with whole beans; the separate pre-ground chute is documented for drip only, not as a reusable-grounds Cold Brew input. Treat the up-to-40-oz statement as the machine's drink-output claim, not as proof that a 40 oz carafe comes in the box: the package list includes the reservoir and hoppers but no coffee pot. If you need a pot to leave on the table, choose a carafe model. If the essential requirement is pods or capsules, choose a format-compatible hybrid, not this grinder.

Pro versus the other Ninja coffee stations

Compared with AE1001, Pro adds the 13th preset, extra-thick froth, a second swappable hopper and ten more ounces of reservoir capacity. Both offer fully automatic grinding and drink preparation, 50 grinder settings, hot water and separate frothing; the broader machine family also supports two user profiles. By contrast, Luxe Café Pro ES701 keeps a semi-automatic portafilter workflow: it has guided grinding and an assisted tamper but asks you to handle the basket. ES701 also adds its own independent hot-water route and is more vertically tall, while the AutoBarista's appeal is automating the grind-to-cup sequence. For a shared pot or pod routine, neither AutoBarista replaces a conventional carafe/pod machine.

Counter space and care remain part of the decision

At 39.44 lb, the Pro is not a small appliance to move in and out every morning. Its footprint is 17.81 in long by 10.68 in wide by 15.82 in high; allow working room to remove its large water reservoir and to access the hopper, milk jug, cup tray and spent-puck area. The machine has a one-year limited warranty and a 53.1 in cord on the base stainless page. The base stainless-steel page lists a 53.1 in cord and a one-year limited warranty.

The quick-start guide recommends a water-hardness test, an initial rinse and a Grind iQ calibration with new beans. Automatic rinses reduce some routine labor, but the jug, whisk and selected removable components still need care, and the steam wand should be wiped after milk use. The quick-start guide covers initial setup, but the supplied owner guide is the reference for the full cleaning and descaling schedule.

Who should choose AE1051?

Pick Pro if you want the fully automatic format and will use the additional presets, the extra-thick froth option, or the second hopper as a swap-in part. AE1001 is the more straightforward choice if one bean hopper, ten drinks and a 70 oz tank already fit. Choose a portafilter-oriented ES701 if you want guided but more hands-on preparation; choose a conventional carafe brewer if a pot or pod compatibility is a must. No ownership, home testing, tasting score or current price claim is implied.
