Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio: 40-ounce vs. 56-ounce versions

The name FlexBrew Trio describes a useful combination—pod, single-cup grounds and a separate glass carafe—but does not make every Trio the same configuration. The black 49904FG is documented with a removable 40-ounce single-serve reservoir and type A149 manual. The black-stainless 49916G uses the 56-ounce reservoir and the A147 guide. The choice is about capacity and menu, not an extra brewing side.

What the 49904FG guide confirms

Hamilton Beach directly links the 36-page type A149 Use & Care guide from the exact 49904FG page. It lists pod sizes of 8 or 10 ounces and single-cup grounds sizes of 8, 10 or 14 ounces. A separate glass carafe is rated to 12 cups and sits on a warming plate. For a full pot, the guide calls for up to 60 grams of coffee in a basket-style paper filter. Delay programming is for the carafe side, and the appliance brews on only one side at a time.

What changes in the 49916G

The 49916G page and its linked type A147 guide document a 56-ounce removable single-serve reservoir. That is a 16-ounce larger water capacity than the 49904FG’s tank. The A147 guide lists pods at 6, 8 or 10 ounces and grounds at 6, 8, 10, 12 or 14 ounces. It also names 49916 in its model table and permits letter suffixes, supporting the exact 49916G-to-guide match. The 56-ounce figure is a tank size, not a promise of a specific count of cups: the count depends on which serving size and input you use.

Choose by the actual morning routine

If the household normally makes one or two cups and sometimes a pot, 40 ounces may already be enough reservoir capacity; the two variants still require the carafe-side routine to be selected separately from the single-cup side. If people take several consecutive cups, the larger 49916G tank reduces how often you need to refill compared with the 49904FG, while its manual adds 6- and 12-ounce grounds choices and a 6-ounce pod option. Neither guide confirms a 12-ounce pod setting for these models. Do not confuse the 49914 page’s separate 12-ounce pod wording with either manual’s verified menu: the A147 guide lists 49914 but specifies only 6/8/10 ounces for pods.

Both families are hybrids with the same basic boundary: the pot and cup sides cannot brew at the same time. If you only need compatible pods or grounds for one mug, a single-serve machine will take less counter space and avoid the carafe circuit’s care. If a hot-over-ice button is essential, compare a model with a documented Over Ice program rather than assuming a FlexBrew Trio can make one.
