A useful fit for

A fit for someone who wants two distinct routines in one counter footprint: a real grounds menu with a glass batch pot, plus Original-style single-serve espresso capsules and a simple cold milk-whisking step. It is especially useful when some mornings call for drip coffee and others for a small capsule drink.

The main tradeoff

This is not an all-format pod machine or a bean-to-cup espresso maker. It does not accept standard K-Cup coffee pods or grind whole beans; its whisk does not heat milk and is not a steam wand. Grounds need a #4 filter, the permanent filter is separate, and descaling each brew path takes a long manual-directed cycle.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Do you want grounds coffee and an Original-style espresso capsule path, rather than standard K-Cup pods?

Yes. The CFN601 has separate Grounds and Capsule controls. Its exact owner guide says the capsule holder is compatible only with Nespresso Original Capsules; it is not a standard K-Cup coffee-pod adapter.

Is a glass pot with adjustable warming-plate temperature important?

Yes. The 12-cup glass carafe rests on an Intelligent Warming Plate with Low, Medium, or High temperature choices and a run time up to four hours. The default is two hours at Medium.

Do you want a built-in milk frother, and is a heating steam wand essential?

The fold-away whisk is included for frothing, but it does not heat milk or liquid. Warm milk separately for hot foam; choose a model with a manual steam wand if heating and texturing milk in the machine is essential.

The Ninja CFN601 joins two genuinely different coffee routines on one counter: a grounds brewer that can fill a glass carafe and an espresso-capsule station for a small cup. That distinction matters more than the broad “barista system” label. If you want regular K-Cup coffee pods or a grinder for whole beans, this is not that combination; if your household switches between a pot of drip coffee and an Original-style capsule drink, its two paths are more useful than a standard pod-and-carafe machine.

Two brew paths, not one universal pod holder

On the grounds side, the CFN601 offers nine selections, from an 8-ounce small cup through a 55-ounce full carafe. Classic and Rich are not simply strength names for identical output: the manual’s approximate table lists less coffee from Rich than Classic at the same selection. Over Ice is a hot brew intended to go directly over a vessel filled with ice, not a cold-steep program. Grounds can also serve a travel mug or partial carafe, so a full batch is not the only reason to use that side.

The capsule side has a different holder and controls. SharkNinja describes espresso capsules in Espresso (1.35 ounces), Lungo (3.75 ounces), and Over Ice (1 ounce) styles. The model guide is narrower than a generic pod claim: it says the unit is compatible only with Nespresso Original Capsules. Do not assume a K-Cup adapter, Vertuo capsule, reusable K-Cup filter, or whole-bean hopper. The capsule station is a convenient way to make a short concentrated drink; it is not a portafilter espresso machine and the advertised 19-bar pressure is a manufacturer specification, not an independent extraction test.

The pot routine is more adjustable than many glass brewers

The box list includes a 12-cup glass carafe and a 60-ounce removable reservoir shared by both brew paths. On Classic or Rich carafe brews, the Intelligent Warming Plate can be set to Low, Medium, or High and timed for up to four hours; the guide says two hours at Medium is the default. That extra control is useful if a pot will sit for a while, but it is still a glass carafe being held over an energized plate, not an insulated vessel that retains heat by itself. The plate does not make a single capsule drink into a carafe brew.

For grounds, the package lists a paper-filter kit and Smart Scoop. The owner guide calls for a #4 paper cone filter or a compatible permanent filter, but not both at once; SharkNinja lists the permanent filter as a separate accessory. This is a small but recurring ownership detail for households that do not want to keep paper filters. The nine settings include a useful span from single cups to a full pot, but they do not make a dedicated 1–4 cup carafe program: the manual’s choices are fixed approximate outputs, so follow the supplied measurement chart rather than treating a button label as an exact mug fill.

A frother that makes foam, not steam

The fold-away whisk is a practical extra for cappuccino-style drinks, but its limitation is explicit in the manual: it does not heat milk or other liquids. For hot foam, heat the milk separately, then froth it with the whisk. There is no manual steam wand, and the product page does not describe a separate hot-water tap. If hot-water dispensing or heating and texturing milk on the brewer is essential, compare the Cuisinart Coffee Center Barista Bar SS-4N1NAS, which has a hands-on wand; if a built-in milk jug and automatic frothing are the priority, compare a different appliance category rather than mistaking this whisk for one.

Plan for setup and cleaning

First use requires priming both brew paths, so the two-format flexibility comes with a bit more setup than a single-purpose brewer. Delay Brew is grounds-side only, and the machine must remain powered on for the scheduled start. The glass-pot warmer can continue for up to four hours if selected, so decide how much holding time you actually need instead of assuming it will switch off at the right moment. At 14.84 inches long, 11.89 wide, and 17.4 high, it also deserves a height check beneath cupboards before purchase.

Cleaning is the less glamorous compromise. The manual gives separate cleaning/descaling procedures for the grounds and capsule sides; each cycle takes about 75 minutes and needs the follow-up water flush. Capsule brewing also leaves spent pods to empty, while the grounds path leaves a used filter and wet basket. That is manageable if these are occasional routines, but it is a real workload if you plan to switch formats several times a day.

Who should choose it—and who should look elsewhere

Choose the CFN601 when you will use both the grounds-to-carafe routine and compatible Original espresso capsules, want adjustable warming-plate temperature, and are content to heat milk separately. It is a current-reference model even though the manufacturer page showed a back-in-stock notice when checked; do not read a product listing or photograph as a promise of immediate stock. The one-year limited warranty is the listed term.

For K-Cup pods with grounds and a pot but no espresso-capsule feature, the earlier Ninja CFP201 is the clearer format match. For K-Cup pods plus OriginalLine-style capsules and an actual steam/hot-water wand, the Cuisinart SS-4N1NAS combines more routes but asks for hands-on wand care. Neither alternative is an automatic whole-bean machine. Compare the exact model code, carafe and filter parts, capsule type, and milk workflow that you will use most; the right fit depends on those everyday differences, not on how many drink names appear in the headline.
